I feel my work is important because the process I use is quite unique. I have yet to find this particular technique being used anywhere else within the field of contemporary fine art painting. By placing an ink stripe on the canvas and pouring PVA and acrylic over the top, I have developed a style which is all my own - both characteristic and original.
I developed this new approach to producing art after many years sketching the west coast of Scotland. The mediums I was using at that time - PVA and acrylic - were particularly suited to the images I was trying to create. However, during my studies I came to realise that, by eliminating the paint-brush from artistic process, new visual elements could be created. This was the key to a more subtle image quality. Pouring, rather than brushing, meant that I could create minimal abstract pieces. This felt like the logical extension of abstract painting - images literally untouched by worldly objects. Now, seven years on, I feel confident that I have found a unique imagery that is mine.
For a visual insight into my work please take a look at a selection of sketches and colour studies I developed whilst working on my Spring 2006 collection.
