Abstract: Chaos
Abstract: Chaos
Without the continuous exploration of mediums and paint, the paintings cannot progress. It is this progression in my work which I aspire to—growth, exploration, and above all, new ways of painting.
This piece embraces chaos in the best possible way. The collision of deep purples, fiery oranges, and brilliant golds creates an almost volcanic energy across the canvas. I've allowed the paint to pool, spread, and react with itself in ways that can't be completely controlled or predicted.
The textures here are particularly rich—you can see where different mediums have created cells and patterns as they dried, where colours have bled into each other, and where bold gestural marks cut through the more fluid passages. It's a visual record of paint behaving in unpredictable ways.
Working like this, where I relinquish some control and let the materials lead, keeps my practice alive and evolving. The spontaneity and risk-taking in these abstract pieces directly influences how I approach my coastal landscapes, bringing that same sense of energy and movement to capturing light on water or drama in the sky.
