Sometimes down on the beach at West Wittering you get an unusual light, almost other-worldly in quality. This painting captures one of those special moments when the sky takes on soft, dreamy hues of coral, gold and subtle pinks against the steady blue of the water.

I'm always observing the changes in the light on the land and sea, and hope this is conveyed in this painting. The distant silhouette of the Isle of Wight creates a perfect anchor for the composition, while the delicate beach grasses in the foreground add depth and a sense of viewing this remarkable scene from the dunes.

West Wittering boasts some of the most beautiful coastal views in the country, and I am very lucky that this constant source of beautiful light is on my doorstep. The panoramic format allows me to capture the expansiveness of this special landscape where sea meets sky in a harmonious blend of colours.
