As you walk around East Head, the view opens up in every direction. The South Downs sit quietly in the distance, the tides pull in and out across the beach, and the sky does whatever it wants.

I've spent so many days here, and it never looks the same twice. This panoramic format (31 x 122cm) felt like the only way to paint it. I needed the width to capture that sense of space, the way the deep blues of the sea sit against the more muted tones where the tide has retreated.

The rolling clouds over the Downs carry real weight in this piece. There's a stillness to East Head, but there's energy too. Both are in the paint.
