Bracklesham Bay, The Sea Remembers Everything
Bracklesham Bay, The Sea Remembers Everything
I get obsessed with painting a moving sea. It's one of the biggest challenges there is: capturing something that never holds still, never repeats itself.
This painting took weeks, and I know I've caught it. That moment when the surf breaks and the colours shift from deep turquoise to white in a fraction of a second. You can't plan that, you have to feel your way in.
I've spent so many days painting and watching this stretch of coast from Bracklesham to West Wittering, studying how the light changes the water hour by hour. The warm earth tones of the shoreline ground everything here, anchoring all that restless movement above.
I love this part of the world and I never tire of its beauty. I'm very fortunate to have it on my doorstep.
