East Wittering, Rising Calm
East Wittering, Rising Calm
The stretch of beach between Bracklesham and East Wittering has a different quality. Calmer, quieter, the kind of place where you become aware of the sound of stones turning in the tide.
That's what I wanted this painting to hold: not just the look of the sea but the feel of it. The rhythm of water pulling across pebbles, the foam settling and retreating.
Above it all, that wide open sky, soft and still, holding its breath while the water moves beneath it. It took weeks, building up layers slowly so the surface carries real energy rather than simply depicting a seascape.
I want you to stand in front of this and feel the tide. The push and pull of it, that particular calm that only comes from being near moving water.
