Deep in Holkham's dunes that day, I found myself drawn to the way the marram grass caught the light, each blade needing its own distinctive mark on the canvas.

Working with fluid strokes for the swaying grass against more textured layers in the sand, I built up the foreground to lead the eye towards that characteristic vast horizon.
