Sunset Dell Quay from the Crown and Anchor
Sunset Dell Quay from the Crown and Anchor
Sunsets sometimes are spectacular, especially down here in West Sussex. The Crown and Anchor is a particularly special place—the outdoor seating area is amazing and has one of the best views across the harbour, and has recently had a refresh in readiness for the summer.
This particular sunset was absolutely stunning, almost unreal in colour. The pinks and oranges reflected in the water create a magical glow around the silhouetted boats as the tide recedes. It's these fleeting moments that I'm always trying to capture in my work.
I want you to feel this place through colour and marks and experience the sunset as opposed to just seeing it. The way the last light catches the mud flats and creates these reflections is something I find endlessly fascinating.
I hope through the manipulation of paint and various techniques I've managed to express the feeling of this very, very special place. There's a certain magic that happens when the setting sun transforms an everyday scene into something extraordinary, and that's what drew me to paint this view.
