The light breaking through storm clouds created an almost theatrical scene at Holkham that day.

I worked with contrasting techniques - splattering paint in an abstract style to capture the energy in the sky while using bold, dark strokes for the woodland edge along the horizon.

The palette moved from moody indigos through to bursts of yellow light, while hints of lilac softened the edges of the incoming weather.

Through these varied marks and textures, I aimed to capture that dramatic moment when sun and storm meet over Holkham's pinewoods.
