This week I'm taking part in something unlike anything I've done before. A genuine step out of my comfort zone, but one well worth doing, I feel.
Inside the Box opens at the Regency Town House in Hove on 3 September, and the premise is exactly what it sounds like. Trevor, who you may know as TBOY, has built a mid-century modern pavilion at 1/12 scale, entirely from scratch, inspired by the architecture of Mies van der Rohe. It holds 27 miniature works by selected artists from around the world, and it sits at the heart of the house, surrounded by the full-size original. Three rooms, four exhibitions, three days.
My contribution is a 12 x 12" version on paper of Crashing Waves Over Bracklesham Bay. The original, which is 92 x 92cm, will be on show and for sale too, so you can see both together.
Downstairs there's a neon room, made in collaboration with neon artist Tony, along with a DJ, drinks and a few surprises. It is not your usual gallery exhibition, and that is rather the point. The show also introduces orangeboy_art, whose original work is deeply personal. I had the pleasure of meeting George at a party recently, so I'm looking forward to seeing his work in person.
