As the summer comes to an end here at West Wittering, it is my favourite time of year. The clouds are different and the light has changed—there's a softer quality to everything that I find irresistible to paint.

My hope in this painting is to convey the calm beauty that is East Head and West Wittering at this special time. At certain positions on the beach you get these beautiful walks along the shoreline, with whispering clouds drifting overhead and those gorgeous blues reflecting in the wet sand.

The panoramic format captures that sense of endless space that makes this stretch of coast so special. I love how the dune vegetation creates a natural frame for the view, leading your eye out towards the distant waters where the Isle of Wight sits on the horizon.

There's something deeply peaceful about late summer here—the busy holiday crowds have thinned out, but the warmth and light still have that golden quality. It's when this beloved coastline feels most like home to me, and I hope that sense of belonging and tranquility comes through in this painting.
