This painting took a long time to complete. The beams of light that often occur at particular times of day, when the clouds are positioned just right, can give you the most incredible free light show on earth. Scotland delivers these moments like nowhere else.

I am constantly trying to capture moving light and dramatic conditions so that you are transported to that moment. The way those golden rays break through the storm clouds and illuminate the valley creates such powerful contrasts between the dark mountain silhouettes and the brilliant light.

This painting is from sketches and memories of Knoydart. I was 18 when I first visited the Highlands, and I will be grateful for her detailed beauty forever. There's something about that remote wilderness that has never left me.
