Elgol, the one and only stunning Elgol on the Isle of Skye. I have been painting Elgol for 30 years and it never fails to inspire me. There's something about this dramatic coastline that draws me back again and again—the way the Cuillin mountains rise so dramatically from the sea is absolutely breathtaking.

In this painting I was trying to convey the sense of mystery and drama that surrounds Elgol. The moody sky with those striking rays of light breaking through the clouds creates an almost supernatural atmosphere. Sometimes it's a haunting place that always leaves me speechless, especially when the weather is changeable like this.

The light does incredible things to the land here and boasts a detailed beauty like no other. I've tried to capture that moment when the sun pierces through the storm clouds, illuminating patches of the landscape whilst leaving others in deep shadow. The contrast between the dark, brooding foreground and those brilliant shafts of light creates such powerful drama.

The rocky shoreline in the foreground adds texture and depth, leading your eye across to where the light hits the water. Drama and mystery is something I was keen to convey here—that sense of standing in one of Scotland's most wild and untamed places, where nature puts on the most incredible show.
