Fionnphort, Isle of Mull, Scotland
Fionnphort, Isle of Mull, Scotland
On the very tip of the Isle of Mull sits Fionnphort, a beautiful beach with incredible rock formations. The village's Gaelic name means "White Port," though the granite rocks here are anything but white—when I say pink rocks at Fionnphort, they really were pink.
The colours that appear in this landscape are almost unreal. I loved painting this place—it was windy and beautiful and wild, with that raw energy that makes Mull so special. The granite in the foreground creates such interesting textures and patterns, worn smooth by countless storms and tides.
My hope is this painting speaks of a place that has beauty everywhere you look. The wildness of Mull is so pure and real, and I've tried to capture that untamed quality where the land meets the sea in such a dramatic way.
This painting, I hope, conveys the essence of such a place—remote, windswept, and utterly magnificent.
