This is the view across to Ardmeanach, one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline I've painted. I started with an abstract shape loosely drawn from sketches made on location, then built the surface up through intensive layering to bring in drama, movement and light.

I wanted you to feel as though you'd been dropped onto that hillside on a wind-swept day, with the cloud moving fast and the light changing under it. The surface was worked with poured paint, toothbrushes, sponges and layering mediums, kept spontaneous rather than controlled, so the finished piece leans towards something felt rather than simply observed.
