Dell Quay at golden hour. There's a point in the evening when the light turns everything the same colour: the sky, the water, the mud flats, all burning orange and pink. The boats sit quietly in it. You can hear the oyster catchers. This is the time of day I come back for, again and again.

That last hour when the harbour holds its breath and the light does things you wouldn't believe if you hadn't seen it yourself.

Dell Quay is just up the road from my studio, and I never tire of painting it. Some places just keep giving.
