Memories of Knoydart, Scotland
Knoydart sits on the west coast of Scotland, a little boat ride up from Mallaig. What makes this place so special is no road goes to Knoydart—it feels very much like untouched wilderness.
I am proud and privileged to have visited this special place. The painting for me captures those magical skies and light that hit the highlands. I wanted to convey the dramatic contrast between the deep, dark landforms and the luminous golden light that breaks through the clouds.
When this happens in the highlands, it's like you are having your own private show with yourself and the land. The violet-tinged clouds against the golden sky create that unique Scottish light that has drawn artists to these landscapes for centuries.
I love Knoydart, a very unique place to paint, where the remoteness allows nature to speak in its purest form. The textural qualities of this piece reflect both the ruggedness of the terrain and the ethereal quality of the atmosphere.
