As the seasons change over The Witterings, the light changes the land too. I love this time of year when you can actually see silver on a regular basis in the sky and sea—it's something very specific to West Wittering Beach.

This painting captures one of those dramatic moments when a storm is approaching but the sun still manages to break through the clouds, creating that incredible silver shimmer across the water. The distant silhouette of the Isle of Wight anchors the horizon whilst the storm clouds build and shift above.

I've been experimenting with new silver paints from Winsor & Newton, which allowed me to really capture that metallic quality of light on water that I see so often here. The panoramic format felt right for this piece, giving you that sense of being surrounded by the drama of the changing weather.

My hope with this painting is that you can feel the cloud movement and energy of the moment. That sense of anticipation when the weather is about to turn but the light is still absolutely stunning.
