East Head at West Wittering Beach is truly magical in the early days of spring. As the sun begins its journey lower in the sky over the Isle of Wight, this season at the Witterings presents an exceptionally beautiful spectacle.

Working in this panoramic format allows me to capture the sweeping view across the water, with the soft blues of the sea meeting the dynamic sky above. I particularly enjoy painting the movement in the dune grasses—the way they bend and sway in the coastal breeze adds life and energy to the foreground.

The lighting in this piece shows the afternoon around 3 pm, when there's a wonderful clarity to the air and the shadows create interesting patterns through the grasses. This time of day brings a silvery quality to the water that I've tried to capture with touches of light reflecting off the surface.
