Spring Light in the Dunes at East Head III
Spring Light in the Dunes at East Head III
East Head sits at the end of West Wittering beach. It is one of the most calming, spectacular beaches on the south coast of England, and as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it's a protected landscape of real importance.
The dunes and the grasses are an extra beauty spot when looking over to the Isle of Wight. This painting was done whilst sat in the dunes at the end of a bright, windy day when the folds and green grasses were at their best. I love how the light catches the golden tones in the marram grass, creating such a warm glow against the brilliant blue sky.
Those dramatic clouds building overhead add a sense of movement and energy to what is otherwise a peaceful scene. The contrast between the wild sky and the calm turquoise water beyond the dunes captures the essence of this special place.
East Head is my most favourite calming place in the world. Being able to sit amongst the dunes and simply watch the light change throughout the day is a privilege I never take for granted.
